Roy Charles Kennedy, Sr., known as “Bud” to friends and family, died on May 8th, 2023 at the age of 85. He was born to Roy and Mamie (Mull) Kennedy and raised in South Toledo. He attended Libbey High School until he left school to join the Army at age 17. Upon returning home, he became an apprentice in the plumbing trade and later got hired at Jeep where he worked as a millwright for 38 years before retiring in 2013.
Along the way, he met the love of his life, Darlene (Valenti). They married and raised a family that ultimately became the focus of his life. He was the consummate provider and that love for his family inspired a work ethic and generosity that became his most recognizable traits. His most cherished time was spent with his children, and especially his grandchildren, and they were by his side until his very last moment.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene; and his grandson, Kenneth. He is survived by his children: Donna (Tim) Sanderson, Renee (Joe) Phillips, Herbert (Laura) Kennedy, Robert (Lisa) Kennedy, Daniel Kennedy, Lark Sadowski, and Roy Kennedy, Jr. as well as 18 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
