Rosemary Ruggles, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and retired nurse, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 26, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, Rosemary graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School, and relocated to northwest Ohio to attend nursing school, beginning a long and meaningful career as a registered nurse. Her deep dedication to caring for others was evident throughout her four decades of service with Ford Motor Co, Hunt Wesson, Arbors at Oregon, and Otterbein Portage Valley, until her retirement in 2016.
In her retirement, Rosemary lived exactly as she had always dreamed—embraced by the peace and beauty of country living in Gibsonburg, Ohio. A woman of quiet strength and warmth, she led a private life, finding joy in life’s simplest pleasures: books, movies, a glass of wine (or two—maybe even three, because why not?), British television, and attending art and ethnic festivals.
Though she treasured her solitude, Rosemary deeply valued conversation. She loved long, meaningful talks with just about everyone she met and made it a point to connect daily with her children, staying engaged in the details of their lives. She cherished visits and sleepovers with her grandchildren—playing board games or cards late into the night, always kept Grandma’s Candy Dish filled with their favorite chocolates, and sharing countless special moments.
She held a unique and personal bond with each grandchild, relationships they all hold close to their hearts. She especially loved weekend movie marathons and endless book discussions with her granddaughter and best friend, Chelci. Her gentle spirit, loving heart, and deep devotion to family touched all who knew her.
Rosemary is deeply missed by her children: Lisa (Stephen) Traxler, Denise Atler, and Donald (Debra) Ruggles; her grandchildren: Chelci (Brian) Hurley, Teagan (Brandon) Johnson, Madisyn (TJ), Isabella, Gabriella, and Alexander Traxler; Bryce Atler; Kaitlyn (Pat), Marissa (Chase), Dylan, and Bella Ruggles; and her great-grandchildren: Leland, Declan, Kiara, Eli—and two more expected soon. She is also mourned by her Aunt Dorothy, many cousins, and dear lifelong friends who will forever carry her love and memory in their hearts.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ruggles, and her parents, John and Mary Vernarsky.
