Rosemary F. Jones

October 4, 1941 — March 18, 2023

Rosemary Frances Jones, 81, of Clay Center, OH passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Genoa Care Center, Genoa, OH. She was born on October 4, 1941 in Toledo, OH to Paul J. and Mary A. (Chovanec) Feyes. On April 27, 1968 in Genoa, OH she married Richard L. Jones, and he survives. Rosemary earned her B.S. in Education in 1963, and her M.E. in Remedial Reading in 1965, both at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH. She was a former member and past president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Chi Chapter, Oregon, OH and past president of the Toledo Area Council of Delta Kappa Gamma, Oregon, OH.


She started her teaching career working as a as an elementary school teacher for Coy Elementary School in Oregon, OH, where she taught from 1963-1974, and also worked as a Summer School Team Leader. She then took a break from teaching to stay home and raise her children. From 1991-1996 she worked as a homebound tutor for Oregon City Public School System, Special Services Department. From 1996-2006 she was a Title I Reading Specialist for Oregon City Public School System. She retired from teaching in 2006. Rosemary also worked for the Ottawa County Board of Elections in Allen Township as a precinct worker.


She was a very devout and active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Martin, OH, where she served as coordinator of religious education and taught religious education for over 20 years. She was a Parish Council member, Eucharistic Minister, Liturgy Committee member, Toledo Diocesan Synod member, Toledo Diocesan Assembly member, and a festival worker. She was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Cub Scout Den Leader of Pack 342, Williston, OH, Pack Committee Chairman, Den Leader Coach, the Advancement Chairman from 1984-1996, and she remained very active with Pack 342 for many years.


In her years of education and teaching, she was selected as a Jennings Scholar 1967-1968, Teacher of the Year Award candidate for the Diocese of Toledo in 1978, received the Ralph Tipple Award for Outstanding Service to Scouting in the Ottawa District in 1987, received the Ottawa County District Award of Merit for Boy Scouting and Cub Scouting in 1989, was the former Vice President and member of the O.E.A. (City of Oregon Education Association).


Rosemary led a simplistic life of service to others and was known for her cheerful and compassionate demeanor. Her main goal in life was to make sure her family and everyone she encountered lead a life dedicated to Christ and his Works of Mercy. This was demonstrated as she suffered through both breast and pancreatic cancer, never complaining, but using Christ as her strength through her most difficult days. Most important to her in this world was her faith and family. She was a very devoted and giving wife, mother and grandmother.


In addition to her loving husband of over 54 years, Richard, she is survived by her sons, Patrick (Kimberli) Jones and David (Monica) Jones, grandchildren, Skylar, Lucas, Dillian, Isabella, and Gabriella, and sister, Susan Novotny. She was preceded in death by her parents.


The family would like to thank the staff of the Genoa Care Center, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and Dr. Neiman Odeh for their compassion shown to Rosemary and her family during these past few months.


Visitation for Rosemary will be Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 3-7 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, OH. A Funeral Mass for Rosemary will be celebrated by Father Joseph Poggemeyer at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 1105 Elliston Rd., Martin, OH, where Rosemary will lie in state one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in Allen Township Cemetery, Williston, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Rosemary may be given to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
