Rose P. Short

March 5, 1928 — October 11, 2018

Rose Short, 90, of Catawba Island passed away at Magruder Hospital on October 11 after a very brief illness. She was born on March 5, 1928 in Kearny, New Jersey to Italian immigrants, Vincent and Giovanna Sanfilippo. She went to elementary school speaking only Italian and taught and brought home the new language to her parents. She attended Kearny High School graduating Cum Laude then attended Berkley School of Business. After graduation she worked on Wall Street in New York City as an executive secretary to the President of Chase Manhattan Bank. Rose married Francis (Ed) Short on November 7, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1995. They enjoyed many happy and loving years. They had three daughters in New Jersey. They moved the family to Ohio in 1966. They became members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton. Rose was strong in her Faith. She was a fifty year member of the Catawba Island Club, belonged to the Riverview Auxiliary, and helped with Meals on Wheels. She was an avid bridge player and treasured the many friends she made playing the game throughout the years. Rose was a beautiful lady with a feisty personality and a smile that lit up any room she entered. Above all, she cherished spending time with family and her many friends. Up until this year she continued to fly to Connecticut and Texas to spend time with family. Rose was Mother Superior to her family and was the epitome of unlimited giving of her time, love, and The Sauce. She especially enjoyed the never ending celebration of her 90th birthday. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Francis (Ed) Short; parents, Vincent and Giovanna Sanfilippo; brother, Thomas Sanfilippo; and beloved sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Paul Johnson. Left to cherish her memory are: Patricia (Michael) Berendt, Marilyn (Gary Delpercio) Pinks, and Eileen (Keith) Cravens; grandchildren, Jeninne (Scott) Dahl, Brian Berendt, Timothy Berendt, Jessica (Chris) Skeels, Jackie (Kurt) Landis, Edwin Cravens, and Tyler Cravens; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Irons, Giovanni DelNero, Aidin Dahl, and Gavin and Addison Landis.
