Rose A. (Szalkay) Pitzen, 98, of Toledo, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2016. Rose was born on April 17, 1917 to Hungarian immigrant parents Alex and Vernon (Goboly) Szalkay. Rose was a dedicated wife to her late husband Charles W. and also a wonderful mother and grandmother. Affectionately known to her grandchildren as “Nudge”, she loved dancing with her husband at the Trianon Ballroom where they met, and continued dancing together for the last fifty-five years. She loved cooking, traveling and most of all her family, and was proud of her Hungarian heritage and passed down many traditions and recipes to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with many hugs and kisses. As her health deteriorated, her heart and mind were still on the dance floor with “Chuck”. Rose is survived by her children, Charles A. (Arlene) Pitzen, Lakeland, FL, Dolores (Kent) Glauser, Northwood, Joyce (Carl) Petitjean, Prospect, KY, James (Pamela) Pitzen, Sr., Toledo; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and half-sister Roseann (Leon) Flanery of Leesburg, FL. Rose was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles, her parents and two brothers. Family and friends will be received at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio (419-666-3121) on Friday, March 25, 2016 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
