Rosalia (Lia) Obregon Hakin, 66, formerly of Hartford, Ohio, passed away at Riverview Nursing Home on February 3, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born September 10, 1959, in Port Clinton, Ohio, to Juan and Maria Obregon.
She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and graduated from Port Clinton High School and Vanguard Vocational Center. Rosalia started her military career in the Ohio Air Guard before joining the Ohio Army National Guard, serving for 28 years before retiring as a Staff Sergeant First Class in the 83rd ARCOM, Youngstown. Two sons followed her into the military, serving in the Navy and Air Force.
Rosalia also lived in the Columbus area while raising her young family. She did enjoy coming home to Port Clinton to spend time with her parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She loved and cared for many pets in her lifetime. She made the best tortillas, only her mom made them better. She could out dance us all, listening to all genres of music, especially from our Mexican culture, and was still enjoying her margaritas until recently.
Rosalia was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Raul and Arthur Obregon, and former husbands, Michael O'Neil and Elmer Hakin.
She was a devoted mother of five children, Aaron (Emily) Whittington, Daniel Atari Whittington, Chaz (Margarita Vilshanetskaya) O'Neil, all in the Columbus area, MSGt. Patrick O'Neil (Leslie Ybarra), Dayton, and Caitlin (Robert) O'Neil Gill, Ford City, PA. She was blessed with grandchildren: Hannah (Joe) Borghese, Haleigh, Henry, Harlen, Javier, and Juanito Whittington, Raylan O'Neil, Cecelia Barrickman, and Bradam Laverty.
Surviving siblings included brothers Juan (June) Obregon of Ontario, OH, Abel Obregon of Port Clinton, Jose Obregon of Williamsburg, VA, and sisters Esperanza Davenport (Jordan) of Port Clinton, Diana Pluciniak (Tim) of Oak Harbor, and Lupe Obregon of Huron.
Rosalia lived her last four years at Riverview Nursing Home, as she had been diagnosed with early onset dementia 10 years earlier. Our family is very grateful for the care provided by the staff there, and the Veterans Administration. We all miss the daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother we knew, and remember. She will be embraced and welcomed by her Lord, Mom and Dad, and Raul and Art. Gracias.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, please reach out to the Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary in Port Clinton or the Ottawa County Humane Society, for ways to donate in Rosalia's name to honor her love of all animals. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory has had the honor of assisting the family with arrangements.
