Ronald J. ("Scotty") Scott, 93, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, at The Grove at Oakleaf Village in Toledo, surrounded by his family, after a long journey with dementia. Born August 29, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, Scotty lived a full life grounded in family, faith, and care for those around him.
He was the devoted husband of Mary Ann (Lendecker), whom he met in 1950 at the Liberty Theater in downtown Toledo. Their first date was the senior prom, and they married in 1955, beginning a partnership that lasted more than 70 years. Together, they built a life filled with family, friends, travel, laughter, and shared routines that shaped their home.
Scotty and Mary Ann adopted their daughter, Michelle, and raised her with love, guidance, and encouragement. He was a steady presence in his family’s life, always ready to help with homework, offer advice, or lend a hand when something needed fixing. These were everyday moments, and his help was always there, offered simply and often with a quiet sense of humor.
After graduating from Macomber High School, Scotty enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Ordnance Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, supporting the 40th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in a combat zone, including a mission behind enemy lines to recover fallen service members and a disabled tank. He remained proud of his service throughout his life, continuing to salute the flag as a lifelong patriot.
Scotty began his working life as a golf caddy at Inverness before starting his career as a Tool and Diemaker at Autolite and Chevrolet. Over the years, he learned drafting and design and moved into engineering leadership, eventually becoming Engineering Manager at Tecumseh Products’ Acklin Stamping. He later worked with Midwest Stamping, Chrysler Toledo Machining, and Dura Automotive Systems, earning the respect of colleagues for his knowledge, reliability, and willingness to help.
In retirement, Scotty stayed active, working part-time as a handyman at Spuyten Duyval Golf Course and assisting with maintenance at senior living communities. He enjoyed staying busy and took pride in being useful. In everyday interactions, he came across as a true gentleman, considerate, patient, and easy to be around, without ever making a point of it.
Sports were a lifelong interest, especially bowling, baseball, golf, and football. He played in golf leagues well into his 80s. During retirement, he and Mary Ann spent winters in Florida and Arizona, golfing and spending time with friends, and traveling together on cruises throughout the Caribbean.
Scotty was a devoted grandfather who never missed a sporting event for his two granddaughters. He loved cheering them on, spending time together, and sharing a well-timed dad joke.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter Michelle (Don Adamski); granddaughters Alexandra Evola (Sam Evola) and Natalie Metzger (John Metzger); three great-grandchildren; brother Jim; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Sophie Szkatulski. He will be remembered with deep affection for the care he showed, the time he gave, and the steady presence his family could always count on.
Visitation will be held on Sunday 1/18/2026 from 3:00 PM-6:00 PM, with the rosary at 5:30 PM, at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday 1/19/2026 at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane.
