Ronald James Gecsi

Jul 22, 1942 — Jul 28, 2026

Ronald James Gecsi passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel May Gecsi and William Gecsi. Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Gecsi (Miller), his daughter, Wendy Goertz Adams (Jason Adams); his son, Rick Gecsi (Kristin Miller-Gecsi); his grandchildren, Kate Goertz, William Gecsi, Owen Gecsi, Ava Goertz, and Blake Goertz; his step-grandchildren, Olivia Adams, Brightin Miller, Keegan Miller, and Camden Miller; and his brother, Robert Gecsi (Sandra). Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Ron proudly served his country in the United States Navy before making his home on Catawba Island. There, he founded his communications business in the area of public safety, and devoted countless hours to giving back through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Catawba Island Fire Department, and the Catawba Island Club Yachtsman's Association. Ron loved life on Lake Erie, whether boating, listening to music, or sharing time with family and friends. His greatest joy, however, was the family he built with Mary Ann. Nothing made him prouder than being a husband, father, and grandfather. Ron will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his service to his country and community, his unforgettable storytelling, and his infectious sense of humor. He was a force in every sense of the word. His strength, determination, and commanding presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He faced every challenge with courage, grace, and optimism, never allowing adversity to define him. Even during his lengthy battle with cancer, when asked how he was doing, he would smile and answer, "I'm absolutely wonderful." Ron will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for the strength, generosity, humor, and love of life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.Friends and family are invited to gather from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio.
