Ronald Ray Depew, 81, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away on December 20, 2020 in Mercy St. Charles Hospital. He was born on May 28, 1939, in Kingsport, Tennessee, the eldest of three brothers and three sisters, to Enoch and Dorothy (Scalf) Depew. Many knew him as Ron while his mother and sister, Sandra, called him “Ray”. Ron grew up very poor but was very thrifty, which served him well later in life. He was a very smart student but left school to work and later earned his GED. He and his two brothers, Bob and Don, worked at Guardian Industries for 16 years and later at Glass Tech. His company sent him to England and Germany to educate others on the operation of his company’s furnaces. Ron had great talent as an artist and when he was young he spent many hours in his room drawing. His siblings often would want to watch him while he was drawing but he very nicely encouraged them to go to their own room! While he was a quiet man, he always encouraged and looked out for his siblings for he loved them all; they were his best friends. In Ray’s lifetime he had his share of heartbreak; marriage that ended in divorce and the untimely death of his only daughter, Ray Ellen; his youngest brother, Don; and his sister, Barbara in 1998. Through it all he was staunchly independent and never liked asking others for help but was always there for his family. He is now at peace with the Lord and knows how much he was loved by all. Ron is survived by his grandchildren, Mallory Adams and Theron Depew; four great grandchildren; sisters, Sandra (Gary) Lumbrezer and Patricia Norwalk; and brother, Robert Depew. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rae Ellen Depew; sister, Barbara Norwalk; and brother, Donald Duprae. A graveside service for Ron will be conducted at 1 PM, Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in the Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa, Ohio. A military committal service will also be rendered by the U.S. Army Burial Corps. Masks and social distancing will be required at the service. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
