Ronald E. Bielski

Ronald Edward Bielski, age 83 of Burt Lake Michigan, retired Chief of Police of Rossford, Ohio left on his final unexpected journey on Monday, November 11, 2019.  He was born at home in Rossford, Ohio on January 21, 1936 to Edward A. Bielski and Stella (Stephania Mazur) Bielski. Ron attended St. Mary Magdalene School and graduated in 1954 from Rossford High School.  Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force with his first cousin, Thomas Mazur serving in Greenland. Ron married Martha J. Brossia in August, 1959 and they just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past year. Together they raised two daughters and a son.  He was employed at Ross Cleaners, Bock Laundry Machine Company and was a foreman at Kaiser Jeep, while beginning his police career as a part time police officer for the Village of Rossford under Chief Martin Almester, working the RHS football and basketball games and road patrol. Ron attended Ross Enright Police Academy and was then appointed a full time police officer. He was promoted to police Sergeant and also later became the police firearms range officer by then Chief Mathew Vedra.  He also participated in many years in law enforcement firearms competitions with area police departments in which he was awarded many trophies.  Ron also attended the FBI National Academy (FBINAA) in Quantico, Virginia.  He was then appointed by mayor, Louis Bauer, as Rossford Police Chief in 1989 to 1991.  Ron retired with his wife, Martha in 1991 and then traveled throughout the US and Canada with their Airstream travel trailer, enjoying his hobby of rock hunting and jewelry making with his precious treasures of agates.  He instilled a lifelong love of rock hunting in his children from the time they were born, which has been passed down to their grandchildren. Ron and Martha decided to build a second home in Burt Lake, Michigan in 2006.  They have enjoyed many new memories made with family and friends in God’s Country Up North. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Stella Bielski and all of his aunts and uncles. Ron is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Deborah (John) Kobylak, Christopher (Janice) Bielski and Kathleen (Michael) Goodman; grandchildren, Sarah (John) Scherley, Ashley (Adam Cooley) Goodman, Brittany (Jared) Kobylski, Spencer Kobylak and Austin Goodman; great-grandchildren, Jonah Kobylski and Jack Scherley. Also surviving is his sister, Sharon (Jerry) Bohner. Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Rd., Rossford, Ohio 43460 on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 2 to 8 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 10:00 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Rd., Rossford, OH were the family will greet visitors beginning at 9:00 am in the church narthex.  Interment will follow at Fort Meigs Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorial contributions can be made to All Saints Catholic Church, The National Shrine of the Cross in the Woods, 7078 M-68 Indian River, MI 49747 or the Cheboygan County Humane Society 1536 Hackleburg Rd.
