Roland C. Dr. Troike

DR. ROLAND C. “ROC” TROIKE Dr. Roland C. Troike, died on Christmas day at the University of Toledo Medical Center with his family surrounding him with love. He was born February 25, 1927 in Sandusky, OH to Esther (Jaycox) and John Troike. Following high school, he joined the armed services and fought with the 100th Infantry Division in France and Germany. After the war Dr. Troike pursued studies to become a pastor in the American Lutheran Church. Upon graduation from what is now Trinity Lutheran Seminary, he was ordained in June of 1958, and was called to serve Bethel Lutheran Church in Toledo. During his ministry, Dr. Troike served congregations in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. After several years in the ministry, Roc decided to compliment his education and training by pursuing masters and doctorate degrees in the area of clinical psychology from Fielding Graduate University. Along the way, Roc met and married Charlotte Less, a loving wife, companion, and partner. Their 36th wedding anniversary was December 23, 2013. Together Roc and Charlotte developed a large private clinical practice where both fully enjoyed serving his patients. Dr. Troike was blessed with ability to use his education, experience and training, both in theology and psychology. His professional career which spanned a total of almost five decades stands as a testament to his commitment and dedication to serving the needs of people. He lived a full life; well-lived and well-loved by many. He was awarded in 1989 as a distinguished psychologist for outstanding achievement and professional contributions. He served as president of Toledo Academy of Professional Psychology and Behavioral Change of Toledo. He was a member of the Ohio Psychological Association, The American Society of Marriage and Family Therapy, and The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Dr. Troike was a progressive Christian who spent many hours enjoying critical interpretation of Biblical texts and psychological research, more recently, the study of Neuro Science. His passion was golf, exercising, boating and swimming. Over the years, many hours of enjoyment were spent with family and his special dogs, Travis, Dandi, Benny and Corky. Roc is survived by the love of his life, Charlotte, of Perrysburg, OH; sons, Reverend Roland C. (Donna) Troike of St. Claire, MI and Mark R. Troike of Oregon, OH; brother, Donald of Sandusky, OH; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Ann Less of Toledo, OH. Uncle Roc is survived by talented and loving multi-generational nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own. Over the years he was chosen to be an “Adopted Dad” to several. He will be greatly missed by all. Roc was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, John Seibel, his Mentor, Dr. Clint Phillips, and Marialice Troike, the mother of his sons. Our sincere appreciation to Dr. Basil Akpunonu, his Office Staff, and the Doctors of UTMC who gave outstanding care to Roc over the years and in the final days of his life. We also extend our appreciation to the Doctors and Staff of the Dana Cancer Center at UTMC. Friends will be received after 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) where a Memorial Service will begin at 12 Noon with Pastor Robert Ball officiating.
