It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Alan Wendt announces his passing on October 5, 2023 at the age of 61, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. Roger was born on December 8, 1961, to Doris and Alfred Wendt in Port Clinton, Ohio.
Before and upon graduating from Oak Harbor High School, Roger worked long hours at his parents’ business, Aldo Nursery, at his home in Oak Harbor. He eventually began his nearly 35-year career at Witt & Gaines as a mechanical contractor. Roger married Tanya (Kleinhans) on March 24, 2001. Their daughter Emma was born on December 18, 2002.
Roger was a hard-working, determined and devoted son, brother, husband, and father who enjoyed camping, boating, cars, working outdoors and collecting the entire Oak Harbor Village wooden buildings for display. As Roger's closest friend, Hank Perrin, said: he was resourceful, inventive and could figure anything out way before YouTube!
Roger will be lovingly remembered by his wife Tanya, daughter Emma; siblings: Jim (Pat) Wendt, Kathleen (John) Fawley, Janet (Joel) Burg, Dale Wendt; nieces and nephews: Kim Wendt, Dan (Laurie) Wendt, Todd Wendt, Ben (Kristi) Henry, Matt (Emily) Henry, Brian Fawley, Lisa Fawley, Tyler Burg, Kelsey (Cody) Wright, Erin (Gary) Michel, Kaitlin (Travis) Paten, Kyle Wendt and many great-nieces and nephews. Roger will also be missed by Dorothy (Wendt) Grau, Dan Henry and Roger (Shelly) Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Wendt, sister Phyllis Henry, and niece Deborah (Wendt) Jones.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, with burial to follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, Ohio or Stein Hospice , Sandusky, Ohio.
The family would like to thank the staff at Firelands Regional Medical Center and Stein Hospice for their care.
