Roger V. Basil

Roger V. Basil, 65 of Port Clinton died early Saturday morning, October 10, 2015 at his home. He was born November 18, 1949 in Double Springs, AL, to Nellie Mae (Hunter) and Henry L. Basil. He was a veteran, having served his country in the Army National Guard. On August 2, 1969 at St John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, he married Gloria J. Hern. Roger retired in June from Youngs RV Sales in Fremont. He enjoyed boating, motor cycling, golfing and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Roger was a member of the Port Clinton Yacht Club, Port Clinton Elks, American Legion Post 888, Ft Myers Beach, FL Moose Lodge, and AMVETS Post 22. Survivors include: wife of 46 years: Gloria, son: RJ (Lindsey) Basil of Port Clinton, sisters: Betty Parish, Helen Risner, Ethel (Wayne) Dennis all of Bellevue, OH, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Kelly Basil. Friends may call 1-3pm, Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 216 Washington St, Port Clinton. Funeral Services will be conducted 3pm, Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ottawa County Humane Society or Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary.
