Robert Michael Zion, age 70, of Toledo, died May 6, 2022, at his home. Bob was born August 25, 1951, in Toledo to the late Raymond A. and Maryann (Zientak) Zion and graduated from DeVilbiss High School. He earned his bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Toledo and served in the United States Army for three years.
A dedicated teacher, coach and father figure, Bob taught the humanities at Clay High School for entire working career. He loved hockey and was a successful head coach at all levels including Clay High School, the Toledo Cherokee, and Eastern Michigan University. Bob was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, history buff and baseball card collector. He was a loyal friend and loved his pets, especially his Dobermans.
Surviving is his daughter, Heather (Darrell) Proffitt; brothers, John, (Lisa), Richard and Tony Zion; nephews, John (Daina) and Jeremy Zion; niece, Amy Zion; and devoted caretaker, Tina Stvartak. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Marion Boss.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 12, 2022, in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Military honors and interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
