Robert L. Witt, 70, of Oak Harbor, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, in Mercy-St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo. Robert was born January 6, 1941, Oak Harbor, Ohio, to Elmer and Anna Fick Witt. On August 26, 1961, in Lacarne, Ohio, he married Carolyn M. Cover and she survives. Robert was a 1959 graduate of Salem-Oak Harbor High School and a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor. His first jobs were working at the bowling alley in Oak Harbor, hand setting pins, and delivering newspapers. He was also a commercial fisherman, a fruit farmer, and retired in 1999 as an iron worker from Local #55. For 50 years Robert was owner and operator of Witt Orchards Farm Market and Cider Mill with 15, 000 fruit trees and 80 varieties of apples. His cider won numerous awards in the state competition. He was a member of the Fruit Growers Assoc. and vice president of the Toledos Farm Market. Robert enjoyed interacting with his customers at the orchard and farm market. Robert was a proud grandfather. He was also a season ticket holder to the Detroit Red Wings. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, Robert is survived by his sons, Robert Bob Kristen Witt and Barry Mara Witt both of Oak Harbor; grandchildren, Heather Marie Witt and Madison Leeann Witt; step grandchildren, Elise and Megan Chaffin; and brother, James Ann Witt of Oak Harbor. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Hillman, infant sister, Janet Witt and half brother, Melvin Fick. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Oak Harbor, with interment to follow in Rusha Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, January 20th, and 2-8 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2011. Memorials for Robert may be given to a charity of the donors choice.
