Robert C. Wimberly

December 21, 1937 — January 12, 2016

Robert C. Wimberly, 78, passed away January 12, 2016, at home with his loving wife by his side. Born Dec. 21, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of Andrew Wimberly and Lillian Harrington. Robert moved to Toledo, went to Macomber High School and graduated from UT with a Bachelors of Science and went on to receive a Masters in Education and Education Specialist Degree, also from UT. Robert also was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity at UT. He taught at Rossford High School for 38 years in the science department and had a tremendous impact on thousands of students before he retired in 2001. During his tenure at Rossford, he was president of the Rossford Teachers Association and chair of the science department. He also taught physiology at Owens Community College to nursing students and at the Upward Bound Program at BGSU. He started most school days at Rossford with a joke up his sleeve to tell his students and he was named ‘best dressed’ by the students several times for his dapper clothes he wore. Besides his passion for teaching, Robert also was a very talented watercolor artist and painted beautiful pictures for his friends and family over the years. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, WWII subject matter, the beach, quiet nights at home with his wife and dog, Dixie, and being with his family. Robert also loved to play games and was a great competitor – especially Trivial Pursuit. He was a current member of Westgate Chapel and a former long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where he coached basketball. Most of all, he was a kind, loyal, dedicated, loving husband and father to his wife and children who will miss him tremendously. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Linda; sons, Benjamin Wimberly and Andrew (Brandy) Wimberly; daughter, Rachel (Bradford) Wimberly; stepson, Nicholas Pinotti; sister, Virginia Wimberly Weills Wilkins; grandchildren, Audrey, Alex, Sofia, Benjamin, Hannah and another granddaughter on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andrew (Jackson) Wimberly and James Wimberly; and sister, Eleanor Wimberly. Visitation will be on Sunday January 17, 2016 from 2-8 pm at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, Ohio.
