Robert Glenn Widmer, 88, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away quietly at home on August 24, 2016. He was born on April 15, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, to Dewey and Alta (Brown) Widmer. He was a graduate of Genoa High School and on October 9, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Jean Shessler. Bob started drilling wells at age 12 with his dad and later was co-owner of Dewey Widmer and Sons Well Drilling Co. Later he worked for Siglar & Sieving Plumbing for 30 years. He worked for the Genoa Area Local School System as a maintenance director for 10 years. After retiring he and his wife spent many summers at their cabin in Canada and played host to many friends and family there. Bob was a member and former chief of the Clay-Genoa Volunteer Fire Dept. serving for many years. He was also a member of the Genoa Grange, Genoa Masonic Lodge #433, Oak Harbor Masonic Lodge #495 and a member of the Genoa Christian Church. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jean, children, Jackie Tronge, Jennie (Terry) Wicks, Dan (Laura) Widmer, Don (Cathy) Widmer, 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, sister, Barb Riley and sister-in-law, Betty Widmer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Widmer. Visitation will be in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, September 15, 2016, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.; and 2-8 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016, with a firefighters service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service for Bob will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016, in the Genoa Christian Church, 415 Main St., Genoa, Ohio, followed by interment in Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. The family suggests that memorials for Bob be directed to the Genoa Christian Church or the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District, 101 E. Sixth St., Genoa, Ohio 43430.
