ROBERT G. “BOB” WAGGONER Robert G. “Bob” Waggoner, age 86, of Moline, Ohio passed away peacefully late Sunday, February 12, 2012 in St. Charles-Mercy Hospital. He was born on April 24, 1925, to David and Rose (Ziegelhofer) Waggoner in Toledo, Ohio. Bob graduated from Lake High School, Millbury, in 1943. In high school, Bob was a member of the Davis-Brim chapter of the FFA and Vice President of his graduating class. Upon graduation, Bob was drafted and attended the University of Georgia as part of the Army Specialized Training Program. After basic training, he was deployed to England. Bob was a member of the 1261st Engineer Combat Battalion that built bridges in France, Belgium, and Germany during WWII. Bob was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 and then returned to his previous employment with the New York Central Railroad. On May 20, 1956, Bob married Sally (Brooks) Waggoner. They were married for over 55 years. In 1961, Bob became employed as an inspector in the Plastic Products Division of Owens-Illinois, Inc. in Toledo and also worked part time at Ort Tool and Die. Bob retired from O-I in 1984, after 23 years of service. Following his tenure at O-I, he worked full-time at Ort Tool and Die until 1990. Bob, a 66-year member of Lake Grange #2205, served in various positions, including Master and Treasurer. He also participated in the Wood County Pomona Grange and the Seventh Degree Club. A member of the Wood County Historical Society, Bob participated in the farm equipment special interest group called Barn Bums. Bob collaborated on the historical book, “A History of Lake Township, Wood County, Ohio.” Bob was a member of Moline United Methodist Church since 1940. The church sponsored Boy Scout Troop #63, and Bob was an active Assistant Scoutmaster for many years. Bob enjoyed gardening, wood working, camping and traveling. A fond memory was a 1998 family trip to Germany where the group visited the land of their heritage. Bob is survived by his wife Sally; son Gary (Kara) Waggoner, San Jose, CA; daughter Susan (David) Sisler, Waterville; and grandchildren Zachary and Austin Sisler. He is also survived by sister Rosemary (Everett) Smith, Xenia; brothers, Benjamin (JeanE) Waggoner IV, Walbridge, and David (Vicki) Waggoner, Temperance, MI; and sister-in-laws, Mary Lou Waggoner, Bowling Green, and Laura Waggoner, Perrysburg. Preceding him in death were Bob’s parents, sister Virginia Waggoner; brothers, Charles Waggoner and Wendell Waggoner; and sister-in-law, Rachel Waggoner. Friends will be received on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 2:00pm-5:00pm and 6:00pm-9:00pm in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home 701 N. Main St. Walbridge (419-666-3121). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in Moline United Methodist Church with Pastor Phil Park-Thomas, officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
