Robert David Stutz died peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Bob was born June 21, 1937 to Gladys and Paul B. Stutz in Toledo, Ohio. Bob was a proud graduate of The Most Blessed Sacrament Parish School and a member of the Central Catholic High School class of ’55. He earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Toledo, where he also served as an officer for Theta Chi fraternity. Bob began his long career in Public Accounting with Konopak Dalton in Toledo. He earned his designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and for over 50 years operated primarily as a sole practitioner as well as with various partners. Bob loved working in downtown Toledo where he seemed to know everyone. His children fondly recall taking great pride visiting Dad’s office and, when accompanying him for lunch, it seemed like everyone stopped and greeted him with a warm hello. Bob was a longtime member of the Downtown Coaches Association, the Press Club of Toledo and a former member of The Toledo Club. Bob’s clients’ trust extended well beyond a traditional CPA role and he became a trusted advisor to many Toledo area entrepreneurs, family-owned businesses and community organizations. Almost all developed into close lifelong friendships. Bob also shared his passion and knowledge of the accounting profession as an instructor at Davis Business College and the University of Toledo. While accounting and his clients comprised his professional hours, Bob was fortunate to have the opportunity and ability to realize his lifelong passion for aviation. Bob earned his pilot’s license at the young age of 60! He loved to fly his Cessna 182 with friends and [when willing] family members all over the Midwest. He visited his children, grandchildren and friends whenever he could. Bob found tremendous joy in seeing his grandchildren succeed both academically and athletically. Most recently he was thrilled to attend his eldest grandson’s final soccer game as goalie for The College of the Holy Cross this past fall. He attended many soccer, lacrosse and basketball games, and proudly treated his California grandchildren to a recent Toledo Mud Hens game. Bob is survived by his children: Robert Martin (Shanna Harrell) of Columbus, OH; Molly Daste (Ferrell), of Carmel, CA, and James David (Kathleen) of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren Kieren, Isabella, and Sebastian Daste; Henry, Oliver, and Charlie Stutz; and former wife Mary Ann Wolcott. Bob is also survived by his niece Barb Stutz and nephews Scott and Bill Stutz. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the caring and compassionate staffs at the University of Toledo Medical Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. A Memorial Mass and a Celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of The Most Blessed Sacrament, 2240 Castlewood Drive with a reception immediately following at Mancy’s Steak House, 953 Phillips Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cherry Street Mission Ministries at cherrystreetmission.org or Central Catholic High School, 2550 Cherry Street, Toledo, OH 43608.
