Robert E. Stough, age 85 of Toledo passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in Sylvania Lake Park Care Center where he was a resident the last 3 months. He was born December 26, 1926 in Chicago, Ill. to Robert A.C. and Madge Stough. Bob moved with his parents to Detroit where his father worked for General Motors. He again moved to Lima Ohio after high School where his father was comptroller for the Lima Tank Depot during World War II. He joined the Army Air Corp and became a flight engineer on B17s and B29s flying over the Pacific. After the war he entered General Motors Technical Institute. Bob attended Ohio State University under the GI Bill and graduated in 1951 with his Bachelors Degree in Architecture. He opened Buehrer and Stough Architects in 1953 with college classmate Huber Buehrer. In 1984 he founded Stough and Stough Architects with his son, Craig. Over the course of his 60 year career he designed many local buildings and schools including Maumee High School, Sylvania Southview High School, Port Clinton High School and the Bowling Green State University Ice Arena, General Classroom building and School of Business building. He also designed many religious buildings including his home church, Toledo Grace Lutheran and Rosary Hall for the Sisters of St. Francis and served as architect for the Gleaners Life Insurance headquarters in Adrian, Michigan. Bob served as president of the Ohio Board of Examiners of Architects in 1984 and served as the National Chairman of the 1985 NCARB Architectural Registration Exam. He was president of AIA Toledo in 1964 and was the 1995 Toledo Architect of the Year. He was a 32nd. degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and Jesters and also served on the Inverness Club Board of Governors from 1974 to 1980. Preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis he is survived by sons Robert A. Stough and Craig Barbara Stough; grandchildren Benjamin Michelle Stough, Katharine Thomas Feister and Lyndsey Stough. Friends may visit at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on Thursday from 4-8 PM where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. The family extends special thanks to the devoted caregivers and staff at Lake Park Care Center .
