Robert “Bob” J. Sondergeld, 84, of Genoa, died Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the Genoa Retirement Village. Bob was born September 21, 1932, in Genoa, Ohio, to Rolla A. and Evelyn M. (Wolter) Sondergeld. He was a graduate of Harris-Elmore High School Class of 1950. On November 21, 1953, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Genoa, he married Meta L. Buehler and she survives. Bob worked in the warehouse for ACE Hardware for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and a member and past Commander of Genoa American Legion Post #324. Surviving Bob are his wife, Meta, son, Michael (Valerie) Sondergeld of Genoa and daughter, Karen (David) Andres of Stephenville, TX, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and brothers, Gordon (Betty) Sondergeld and Ray (Leona) Sondergeld, both of Genoa He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Thomas Sondergeld, brother, Glenn Sondergeld, and sister, Carol Barkhau. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 13, 2017, in the funeral home. A military graveside service will be conducted at Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa, following the funeral service. The family has suggested memorials to the Allen-Clay Joint Fire Dist. #36, 101 E. 6th St., Genoa, OH 43430; or the donor’s choice.
