Robert E. Sharp

June 19, 1923 — January 23, 2018

Robert E. Sharp, age 94, of Toledo, passed away January 23, 2018 at his home. Bob was born June 19, 1923 Buffalo Hart, IL to the late Francis L. and Nellie E. (Jobe) Sharp. He started his career in the photo lab at the FBI in Washington where he met the Director of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, then managed an ammunition plant in Illinois making shells for the war. Bob met and married his wife Helen while working for Johnson and Johnson in New Brunswick, New Jersey and they later transferred to Dallas, Texas where he opened a new plant for them. Following ten years with Johnson and Johnson, Bob and Helen moved to Toledo, where he worked for Prestole Corp., Rowe Industries, and Toledo Steel Tube Company (owned by Roth Steel Tube Company out of Cleveland). Bob started Alpha Tube Corporation in Holland, Ohio with a partner in 1977 making steel tubing for the automotive, heating and construction industry. A second tube mill operation in Holland was started later. He retired in 1986 after selling the business. In his free time, Bob enjoyed traveling with his family here and abroad, golfing with his friends at area courses and some favorite courses in Scotland, Ireland and New Zealand. He also enjoyed and supported public television. Surviving are his daughter, Melissa of Sylvania; sister, Catherine Post of Texas; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Helen; son, Robert; and two sisters, Isabelle Adams and Betty Turnbull. A special thanks to his caregivers, therapists and physician who took wonderful care of Bob. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Legion Post #335, Toledo, in which he was a friend for many years, or local public television Channel 30.
