Robert E. “Bob” Schwertfeger, of Ottawa Hills, Ohio left his earthly home on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the age of 79. Born in Toledo, Ohio on January 25, 1943, to F. Edward and Betty J. (Sanders) Schwertfeger, Bob attended Eagle Point Elementary School and graduated from Rossford Senior High School in 1961. He went on to study business at Eastern Kentucky University.
A savvy businessman, Bob spent his career working for Libbey-Owens-Ford (LOF) and was both a Freemason and enthusiastic member of the University of Michigan Boosters. To know Bob was to know the most headstrong, quick-witted, devoted, generous, mischievous, and authentic person that one would ever have the privilege to know. Never one to shy away from a good joke, Bob’s laugh was deep and powerful; only rivaled in strength to his love of all things Michigan Football and Basketball. An avid outdoorsman and traveler, it was common to find Bob hunting, fishing, fine dining, or enjoying a good Scotch; often all at the same time.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Anne (Asher) Schwertfeger; daughter, Manon (Marty) Korse of Lexington, Kentucky; son, Robert Jr. (Beth) Schwertfeger of Maui, Hawaii; grandson, Michael; brother-in-law, Jerry Steer; loving baby sister, Virginia “Ginger” Steer; ten nieces and nephews; and countless great-nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, F. Edward and Betty J. (Sanders) Schwertfeger; sisters, Louise Jaqua, Sandra Ansted, Betsy Davies; brother-in-law, Gareth Davies; and his devoted Springer Spaniel, Sam.
Words can never truly express the impact losing Bob Schwertfeger has on his family and friends, but these kind words of condolences sum up the impact of knowing him:
“...his generosity, his determination, his selflessness, his desire to problem solve for others, his kindness, his natural way of telling a funny story, his keenness for life in general; he will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.”
Indeed, he will be missed profoundly.
Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home on Sylvania Ave., on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 5-8 p.m. A Graveside Service will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in the Chapel of Peace.
