Robert R. Schumacher Sr.

January 12, 1929 — September 7, 2025

Robert R. Schumacher Sr. of Woodville, Ohio passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 96. He was born on January 12, 1929, to Harmon and Elvena (Marten) Schumacher in Genoa.

Robert is survived by his son Robert Schumacher Jr., daughter Robin (Chris) McIntire, 2 grandchildren Lauren (Dave) Kren, Robert (Megan) Schumacher, and 5 great-grandchildren, Logan Slauterbeck, Reese and Finley Kren (Lauren), Collins and Palmer Schumacher (Robert), sister Ruth Nedelco, and half-sister Suzanne Camp.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Harmon and Elvena Schumacher, wife Barbara Schumacher, brother Donald Schumacher, sisters Joan (Lanning) Savage and Rhea Shupe. Brothers-in-law Roy Lanning, John Nedelco, and Richard (Dick) Shupe. Stepmother Donna Schumacher, stepsister Kathy Schumacher, and half-sister Peggy Brockschmidt.

Robert married the love of his life, Barbara E. Taylor, on April 30, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio. He worked as a foreman for Libbey Owens Ford, where he retired after 30 years in 1979. He was a Korean War Veteran, after being drafted he served two years in Korea. He was also a farmer nearly all his life, raising several different types of crops and beef cattle while spending many years devoted to harvesting hay and straw which he sold directly to the Toledo Mounted Police Patrol and several Amish families in Ohio and Indiana.

Robert was always an optimist with a can-do spirit; he was up for any challenge that presented itself. Owning a farm, he could literally fix anything. He loved working with his hands; he built several homes over the years and made many pieces of furniture and cabinetry. He enjoyed reading and was a great historian and storyteller.

Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 455; he also devoted many years as a Woodville Township Trustee also serving as the Woodville Township Zoning Inspector for a few years.

He wore many hats in his life, a son, friend, brother, uncle, soldier, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family lovingly referred to him as “Papa Great.” If you wanted to see him smile from ear to ear all you had to do was show him photos of his family, he loved us dearly and we shall miss him greatly until we are together again.

Special thanks to Sheila, Tonya, and Nora for whom we will be forever grateful for the care and compassion you showed us when our family needed it most, you are all angels.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 W. Street, Genoa, OH. Private graveside service to follow.

Lyrics of a song by Collin Raye remind us of the true faith in the love we share with our spouse. When one passes before the other, they promise to see each other again.

"If you get there before I do, don't give up on me. I'll meet you when my chores are through; I don't know how long I'll be. But I'm not going to let you down, darling wait and see. And between now and then, till I see you again, I'll be loving you, love me."
