Robert A. Schoonmaker, age 89, passed away Wednesday at Foundation Park Alzheimers Care Center. The son of Robert and Hazel (Schyllander) Schoonmaker, he was born November 19, 1925 in Toledo. He was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and attended the University of Toledo. Bob served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He served with the signal group and was honorably discharged as Private First Class. He worked for Columbia Gas in various positions retiring after 25 years. He was a member of First Congregational Church and the Ohio Association of Congregational Christian Churches. A former member of the Elks and Toledo Association of Realtors, he was also a member of Toledo Post #335 American Legion, Toledo-Lucas County Memorial Day Association, Lucas County American Legion Council and Greater Toledo Civil War Roundtable. Bob enjoyed the computer as well as stamp and coin collecting. He is survived by his son, Dale (Anne) Schoonmaker; step-son, Danny Sharf; step-daughter, Karen (Chris) Stipp; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and sister Susan (James) Burkhart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; brothers, Gene and David; and step-sons, Mark and Mike Sharf. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 3-7 PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd) where services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday.
