Robert D. Schondel

Robert D. Schondel, 71, of Toledo, died February 18, 2017 at The Toledo Hospital of natural causes. Bob was born March 27, 1945 in Lodi, Ohio to the late Dale A. Schondel and Carmen (Garver) Richter. A 1963 graduate of Cloverleaf High School, he attended Bowling Green State University where he played tuba in the marching band. Bob retired in 2000 after more than 20 plus years serving as general manager at various truck stops. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians, and enjoyed all types of music. Bob found his greatest enjoyment in time spent with his family. He will be remembered for his friendly, outgoing and joy-filled personality. Surviving are his children, Robert W. (Renae) Schondel, Steve (Cheryl) Schondel and Jennifer Bollinger; grandchildren, Kayla, Jonathan, Nicholas, Lauren and Mark; siblings, Carol Hite, Bill (Renee) Schondel, Don (Pam) Schondel and Cheri (Bob) Hershberger; step father, Red Richter; and former wife, Marian Schondel. He was also preceded in death by his son in law, Fred Bollinger; and sister, Dr. Connie Schondel. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 7:00 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to help defray final expenses.
