Robert L Schoenberger

January 29, 1926 — February 4, 2021

Robert L. “Bob” Schoenberger, 95, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 4, 2021. He was born in Toledo on January 29, 1926, to Arthur and Edith (Schirack) Schoenberger. Bob grew up in Perrysburg, attending St. Rose Elementary and Perrysburg High School. He served in the US Army Air Corps and was able to go to college on the GI Bill. Bob attended OSU and graduated from Bowling Green with a degree in industrial engineering. He was a member of the fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. As an industrial equipment salesman, Bob found his first success at the Crane Co. then moved on to Mason Equipment Co. of Toledo, which he purchased and relocated to Maumee under the new name, Energy Control. Bob spent many years growing his business into a successful enterprise that is ongoing. On April 10, 1954, Bob married Joan (Joanie) Meloy Schoenberger of Perrysburg. Together, they enjoyed many years of family life in Perrysburg raising their two boys. They were also avid tennis players at Belmont Country Club. Many ski trips to various places out west and Europe provided wonderful memories. Bob’s family would describe him as optimistic, pragmatic, wise, curious about the next generations, hardy, adventurous, and fun-loving. He was gracefully stoic with a mix of his own brand of cosmic clowning. He was an engaged, life-long learner. Preceding Bob in death were his parents and the love of his life, Joanie. Also preceding were his sisters, Vivian (Ray) Grimes and Donna (Dick) Forbes. He is survived by his sons, Bruce (Karen) and Jeff (Vivian) as well as four grandchildren: Scott, Nikki, Grace, and Van. Also surviving are niece, Karen (Phil) Barnes and nephew, Ron (Becky) Visser, all of Perrysburg. Services were private. Arrangements were handled by Witzler Shank Walker Funeral Home, Perrysburg, and online condolences can be left at walkerfuneralhomes.com. Memorials may be made to Rocky Mountain Conservancy; 48 Alpine Circle, Estes Park, CO 80517 or Lake Erie Foundation; 236 Walnut Ave., Lakeside, OH 43440.
