Robert “Bob” Schmidt, age 82, of Waterville, Ohio passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, after a lengthy battle with diabetes and kidney failure. He was born on July 17, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Carl and Betty Joan Schmidt.
Bob took over the family business in 1968, Carl Schmidt Motor Sales. He was elected president of the Ohio Dealers Association in 1968. He also was past president of Toledo Auto Dealers Association. In 1973, the business relocated into a new 83,000 sq. ft. building in Maumee and officially became Bob Schmidt Chevrolet, where he continued until his retirement in December 2001. Bob was known as the “sharp pencil” dealer.
He belonged to several organizations, which included Zenobia Shriners and Masons, where he became a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He enjoyed hockey and had season tickets for many years. In his younger years, he enjoyed drag racing.
Bob is survived by his dear wife, Lynn Schmidt, whom he married in 1960; he is also survived by his sons, Charles (Vicki) Schmidt and John (Kirk) Schmidt; brother, William (Anne) Schmidt; and grandchildren, Christopher (Emily), Joseph (Megan) and D.J.; 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. With special cousin, Phil Davis; and we cannot forget to mention his special little friend, Lexie.
Friends and family may visit on Monday, June 16, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St, Perrysburg, Ohio. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at 11:00 am at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery, 620 W. Indiana Ave, Perrysburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Lutheran Church of the Master. Condolences can be shared at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
