Robert Franklin (Szabo) Sabo, age 81, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014, in the loving arms of his wife, Linda and his son, Todd. Rob was born on April 27, 1933, to Fred & Helen Szabo. Rob grew up in Perrysburg, OH playing football and earning all state honorable mention at Perrysburg High School, where he graduated from in 1952. In 1954, after attending Defiance College for a short period on a football scholarship, Rob was drafted into the Army where he served in the Korean War, and played football while in France. He earned honorable discharge in 1955. After returning home from the Army, Rob started his 36 year career with Libby Owens Ford as a mold maker, until he retired in 1991. He also met and married his first wife, Carol, in 1956, raising their family together until her passing in 1984. Rob had a good business mind too, he became part owner in Graystone Banquet Hall in Perrysburg, OH and also came alongside his son Todd to form Sabo Customer Homes in 1996. He was a member of the Maumee Elks for 46 years, also sitting on the Board of Trustees for several years. Rob was also a member of the Perrysburg American Legion. One of his greatest passions was his love of THE UT ROCKETS. He was an avid Rockets football fan, holding season tickets for almost 40 years, he rarely missed a home game. Rob lived a full life, always surrounded by loving friends and family. Whether he was attending a church service or sitting on the renovation team at St. Pauls, he just enjoyed being with the people he loved. Some of his favorite memories, which he relived many times over these past few weeks as he reflected on his life, were his trips to Florida in the winter with his wife, seeing and visiting with friends in Hidden Harbor as he drove the boat around the lake, going to Rudy’s Hot Dog every Friday morning to spend time with his friends (he said just a few days ago “Tell Phil I said thanks for all those great breakfasts), going for coffee with the men from St. Lukes Rehab Center, going fishing, completing projects at home, and spending time with his wife, children, and his 9 grandchildren. Rob will be remembered as a man of integrity, a great husband, a father who worked hard to take care of his family, a fun loving brother, uncle, cousin, friend and as a grandfather who loved all of his grandchildren so deeply. This was the one things he spoke most about recently, they all brought a great joy to his life that was so visible in his eyes, in his voice, and in his smile as he spoke about each of them. Some of Rob’s last words as he was surrounded by his family the night he passed were “He’s coming to get me, Jesus is coming for me and I’m ready”. We love you Robby, daddy, grandpa…our greatest joy these last few months has been watching your heart open up to receive your Savior Jesus Christ, so that He could lead you home. Rob was preceded in death by both of his parents, his first wife, Carol and 12 of his brothers & sisters. Rob is survived by Linda Sabo, his loving wife of 24 years. Also surviving him are his sister Marge Roller, his children, Robert (Bob) Sabo, Todd (Wendy) Sabo, his step daughters Kelly (Tim) Burt, Michelle Arp, and his 9 grandchildren, Emily, Rachel, Ben, Tyler, Samantha, Mitchel, Grace, Simeon, and Brac. Rob will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but we know that this earth is only a temporary residence for those who believe in Jesus Christ, until we meet again. Friends may call at the Maison Dardenne Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 pm. with the Maumee Elks Lodge service at 7:00 PM.
