Robert R. Rodgers age 82 of Maumee, OH passed away on Monday July 15, 2013 at Elizabeth Scott Community. Bob was born in Oak Park, Illinois on November 28, 1930 to Ray and Virgie Ricketts Rodgers. He attended Maumee Schools. He served with the 8th Infantry Marine Corps Reserves from 1948 to 1950. In 1951, he enlisted with the Marine Corp serving 13 months in Korea with the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, until 1954. Bob joined the Maumee Police Department on January 31, 1954, where he served as the first president of the Maumee FOP. He retired in March 1983. He continued to serve his community as an assistant bailiff to the Maumee Municipal Court for several years. Bob enjoyed yearly vacations traveling throughout the United States. With his love of history, he read every historic marker he came upon. Several trips out West, especially Yosemite, and Myrtle Beach with his grandchildren, were some of his favorites. He was a member of the Northern Light Lodge #40; former Maumee Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and May Elliott Chapter serving as Worthy Patron 4 terms and a former member of the Scottish Right of Toledo. Surviving are his loving wife Sandra Sue Downs Rodgers; daughters Kim Steve Wesolowski; daughter-in-laws Patricia and Nancy Rodgers; grandchildren Peter and Patrick Wesolowki, Erin Brad Weiker, Jennifer Chris Kiger, Matthew Rodgers, Brandi Matt Prout and Anthony Rodgers; 5 great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws Richard Downs and Neil Shirley Downs; many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Dolores Yancey; sons Richard and James Rodgers. The Family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff at Elizabeth Scott Community for their support. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 pm at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home 501 Conant St. Maumee, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
