Robert E. Reynolds, Jr., 92, of Port Clinton, Ohio peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Parkview Community on Catawba Island. He was born on July 20, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Robert E. and Katharine (Matthews) Reynolds, Sr. He married Sara Christine Gayski on September 16, 1967 and she preceded him in death on February 8, 2000.
Bob was a United States Army veteran, having served from 1953-1955 with Company E 130th Infantry Regimen as a Rifleman and Rocket Launcher in the 44th Division. He was also a past member of the US Power Squadron.
He was well known as being a boat builder and designer for Matthews Boat Company in Port Clinton for over 25 years until his retirement in 2000. Due to his skill and craftsmanship, he also taught boat building classes at the Maritime Museum in Sandusky.
He enjoyed water coloring and painting, where his artwork can be found displayed at the Port Clinton Arts Garage. He was also an active member of Firelands Presbyterian Church, Port Clinton, where he was a founding member, served as an elder and deacon, and where he custom designed and built their church furniture, namely the baptismal font, church steeple, and candelabras.
He loved touring with the Onward DVD that he patented and gave many presentations to groups across the area. He also loved the Northcoast where he enjoyed riding the ferry to Put-in-Bay, and taking bicycle rides to pick grapes at Heineman vineyards. Most importantly, he enjoyed visiting with the people he loved.
Survivors include his sister, Jane Reynolds-Howerth, Charleston, South Carolina; nieces, Susan (Tim) Celek, Costa Mesa, California, Sally (Ken) Schoenfeld, Cape Coral, Florida, Martha (Brian) Celek, Charleston, South Carolina, Judy (Burrell) Dosher, Charleston, South Carolina, Janice (Bill) Gstalder, Toledo, Ohio, Patti Reynolds, Toledo, Ohio; son, Michael Zetzer, Avon Lake, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, Scott Reynolds.
Visitation will be held at Firelands Presbyterian Church, 2626 E. Harbor Road, Port Clinton, Ohio on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 10 am until the Funeral Service at 11 am with Pastor Bobbie Bella officiating. A light luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the parish hall. Burial will be private at Catawba Island Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Firelands Presbyterian Church, Sandusky Maritime Museum, or to Bistro 163.
