Dr. Robert Schneider Reeves, 84, of Oak Harbor, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Fremont Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Robert was born September 30, 1926, in Wheeling, West Virginia to Paul and Clara Reeves. He spent his early years in Columbiana, Ohio. He completed his undergraduate work at Marietta College and received a Master of Science degree from Ohio State University. His formal education was interrupted by a two year tour with the U. S. Air Force in Frankfurt, Germany. On December 25, 1948, in Beverly, Ohio, he married Allene Sue Rose. Together they raised 3 children and had 58 years of marriage. In 1954, Dr. Reeves received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Shortly after this, he moved to Toledo to do his medical residency at The Toledo Hospital. Dr. Reeves started his general practice in Oak Harbor in 1955, where he spent 13 years caring for the community. In 1968, he made the difficult decision to leave his patients and practice to pursue a 4-year Pathology Residency at Mercy Hospital in Toledo. Dr. Reeves was a partner with Zimmerman, Randolph and Reeves and was Chief Pathologist at Magruder Hospital. Dr. Reeves served as Chief of Staff at both Magruder and Fremont Memorial Hospitals. He retired in 1990. He was a past member of the Oak Harbor Rotary, and an active member of the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church. Dr. Reeves loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed antiquing, skiing and traveling. He also enjoyed reading, wood working and all types of music, especially military marches. One of his highlights was being a member of the 1944 Ohio State Marching Band, where he played the bass horn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Allene Sue and his brother Joseph. Left to cherish his memory are his brother Paul E. Reeves, of Scottsville, NY, sister Viive Sontich, of Poland, Ohio. Son Robert Sharon Reeves, Jr. of Norwalk, daughters Regina Arthur Zoller of Toledo, and Rebecca Greg Dundorf Reeves of Rosemont, New Jersey. Grandchildren, Peter Sarah Henry, David Henry, Gerritt Reeves, and Lauren Reeves, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, February, 4, 2011 from 3 to 8 pm at Robinson Walker Funeral Home in Oak Harbor. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church with an hour visitation prior. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor with military graveside services conducted by the Oak Harbor American Legion and V.F.W. Memorial contributions can be made to the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church.
