Robert Phillips

On Thursday, January 18, 2024, Robert “Jim Bob” Phillips, loving husband and father of six children, passed away at the age of 89. Robert was born June 4, 1934, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to James and Viola (Kaufman) Phillips. Robert married Sandra “Sandy” Kay Hamilton in September 1959 and together they celebrated 62 loving years of marriage.

Robert spent 4 years serving in the United States Air Force as a Flight Simulator SPC and fought in the Korean War before returning home to his family in Toledo, Ohio and spending the next 40 years working for Channel 13. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 553, holding multiple positions and ranks throughout his life, including Commander and a member of the 40 and 8 Club. Robert’s favorite things in life included spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His hobbies included reading, coin collecting, aviation and drawing. He will forever be remembered for his immense love for his family, determination, energetic spirit, and love of Starbucks Chai Tea Lattes.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Ginny; father, James; mother, Viola; brothers, James & Tommie; sisters, Doris & Virginia. He is survived by his children, Sherry King, Terry Blankenstein (Ernest), Debby Bailey (Jackie), Jim Phillips (Irma), Robyn Dandar (Robert), and Ricky Childress (Patty); as well as his fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

No services will be held. Arrangements were entrusted to Walker Funeral Home, Toledo (419-841-2422).
