Robert J. Petz was born on December 31, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio and passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018. He married his wife June (Schwind) Petz on August 18, 1951 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg, Ohio. Bob graduated from Whitmer High School in 1946. He played varsity basketball with his brother, Rudy Petz. They used to call plays in German to confuse their opponents. Their basketball coach was so impressed with their expertise as basketball players. Bob served in the Army stationed in Germany from 1946-1948. He was a rifleman and an interpreter. After the Army, Bob went to college for 4 years under the GI Bill as a Tool and Die Maker. Bob worked for many years at Holtman Tool and Die. Then in 1967 Bob started working as a Tool Maker at Toledo GM Powertrain Plant winning many monetary suggestions. He retired in 1992. Bob enjoyed going to the spa, working out, swimming, and going in the sauna over the years. Bob was very proud of being a blood donor donating 20 gallons. Bob also loved watching the Detroit Tigers with June and getting frustrated watching the Detroit Lions. Bob and June enjoyed going to their cottage in Indiana. He liked to work in his garage and going on pontoon rides with June and his family. Bob was very proud of his German heritage as he spoke fluent German. In the 1970’s he went multiple times to Germany with June to visit his aunts and uncles. Bob was a member for many years with the Toledo Schwaben Verein. Robert is survived by his loving children, Judy (Tony) D’Arcangelo, Jim (A) Petz, Karen (Keith) Nelson, Amy (Troy) Jasinski; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Richards; sisters-in-law, Josephine Petz, Elaine (Frank) Billings, Mary Rogers, Joanne Schwind; brother-in-law, Dick Johnston; and many loving nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joseph and Magdalena Petz; by his wife, June (Schwind) Petz, who he missed dearly, who passed away December 15, 2017; his brother, Rudy Petz; brother-in-law, Bob Richards; many aunts and uncles from Germany; and his granddaughter, Jennifer D’Arcangelo. Friends will be received at Witzler Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Funeral Prayers will be Saturday, April 14, 2018 in the funeral home at 9:15 AM and a funeral mass will be held at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front St., Perrysburg beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to St. Rose Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
