Robert "Bob" F. Mix, a devoted husband, father, brother, friend and entrepreneur, passed away on March 23, 2025. Born on October 24, 1942, to Nelson and Mildred (Montry) Mix, Bob grew up with a passion for basketball, business and community. Bob went to Libbey High School (class of 1960). After high school, he attended Muskingum College before transferring to Toledo University, where he played varsity basketball and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In addition, he met his future wife, Edith, while attending the university. He graduated from the College of Business with a degree in Marketing. After Bob's college basketball career, he played semi-pro in the Continental Basketball Association. Bob’s passion and talent for basketball was shared with his younger brother, Steve, whom he mentored and toughened up to become a better player.
Bob then utilized his business education to become a prominent entrepreneur in the Toledo area. He established various businesses, including pizza parlors, restaurants, bars and ice cream shops. He later transitioned into commercial and residential real estate, building numerous homes, apartment complexes, strip malls and developing several subdivisions in the area. Notable projects included Apple Blossom Farms where he showcased in the Parade of Homes, Maumee Sportsmall, Maumee Antique Mall and built a house for Habitat for Humanity.
He was a member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Toledo, National Association of the Home Builders and Northwest Ohio REALTORS, as well as Elks Lodge.
In his free time, Bob and his family enjoyed boating and fishing, including an annual fishing trip to Costa Rica with his daughters. He was a member of Bayview Yacht Club, where he built a children's playground. Bob also enjoyed his regular Wednesday breakfast group with "old timers". He was a fan of UT athletics, was a long-time member of the Varsity T Club and held season tickets to Rockets basketball and football games for decades. He and his wife, Edith, valued spending time in South Florida since their college days.
His professional contributions, personal qualities and humor will be long remembered by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Edith; daughters, Erika and Lindsey; brother, Steve (MaryAlice); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Jerry Mix.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Cherry St. Mission, St. Jude Children's Hospital or University of Toledo Varsity T. Club. The family invites friends and loved ones to share in celebrating Bob's life. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 2 pm to 7 pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. On Friday, April 4, 2025, a funeral service will begin at 11 am at the funeral home, with a time for visiting an hour prior.
