Robert Allen Merkle

Robert Allen Thumper Merkle, 59, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away, Saturday, August 09, 2008 at the his residence in Oak Harbor. He was born June 25, 1949 in Fremont, OH, the son of Leonard and Martha Rose Nye Merkle. On December 14, 1979 in Ottawa County, he married Pamela J. Merkle and she survives. Bob served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 9/23/69 to 01/16/1971. He worked as a truck driver for Martin Transportation Systems for over 30 years. Bob was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local #20. He was a very loving person, husband and dad and will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: his loving wife of 28 years: Pamela J. Merkle; brother: Leonard Merkle Jr.; sisters: Jacquelin Merkle, Diane Lenhart and Mary Jane Scherger; son: Ron Merkle; daughter: Leah Rose Lacourse; son: Robert Spence; daughter: Valerie Spence; grandchildren: Eden Lacourse, Alexander Lacourse, Danielle Spence, James Spence, Amanda McFeaters and Hadley Lacourse; great-grandchildren: Deaven McFeaters and Isaiah McFeaters. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Jayden Lacourse. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 12, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, August 13, 2008 from 2-8pm, with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor, OH. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Richard Bickelhaupt at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008 in the funeral home. Interment will be in Rusha Cemetery, Oak Harbor, OH, where military graveside services will be conducted by the John A. Fader American Legion Post #114 and the V.F.W. Post #8732 of Oak Harbor.
