Robert F. Meng

Robert F. Meng, 90, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away with his family at his side, on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. Bob was born in Genoa on November 8, 1932, the son of Louis J. and Caroline M. (Heinsohn) Meng. He graduated from Genoa High School in 1950 and later met the love of his life, Margaret A. (Zatko). He and Margaret were married on April 18, 1953, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Toledo and they celebrated 70 years together.

Bob was a lifelong farmer on the ground his family farmed for generations, receiving the Ohio Department of Agriculture Century Farm designation in 2012. He also worked for the former BP refinery in Toledo, retiring in 1998 after 21 years of dedicated service.

Bob was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Genoa, where he chaired numerous committees including the parish council and maintenance committee, of which he was a member for many years. He was a life member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council 4237 where he served in many officer positions and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, #805 of Fremont, Ohio

Bob and Marge enjoyed traveling around the United States from Florida to Alaska. They both worked diligently in their early years to renovate their family home and always kept it looking beautiful; inside and out.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, and children, Carolyn (Dwight) Fielding, Barbara (James) Hoyt, Bob (Chris) Meng, Michael (Susan) Meng, Jeanne (James) Schwerkoske, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Martha Meng and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Nicholas Hoyt, brother, James Meng and sister, Sr. Mary Damian Helen Meng SND.

Visitation for Bob will be held from 2:00-7:00 PM Monday, June 19, 2023, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, Ohio with a vigil service beginning at 6:00 p.m.. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 S. Main St., Genoa with interment to follow in the Clay Township Cemetery. It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to the Genoa Areal Local Schools FFA Alumni Assoc., 2810 N. Genoa-Clay Center Road, Genoa, Ohio 43430, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Renovation Fund or the Donor’s Choice.
