Robert Mcbroom

Robert “Bob” Earl McBroom, 76, of Toledo, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, at St. Anne’s Hospital. He was born in Detroit, MI to Barney and Melverda (Farley) McBroom on September 19, 1946.

Affectionately referred to as Boomer, Bob was a graduate of Cody High School in Detroit, then attended college in Wayne County. He played hockey in the minor leagues for most of his career until he was called up to the Toronto Marlboros where he played in 1965. Bob started his career in Lima, OH as a car salesman, then ventured into other interests. He served as Deputy Sheriff of Toledo and was in law enforcement for over 30 years. He loved to spend time refereeing minor league hockey as well as fundraising for the Wertz Warriors Special Olympics. With a sensitive heart, loving nature, and giving personality, Bob was well known and treasured by all the friends and family who knew him. His favorite hobby was boating on Lake Erie, to which he belonged to the Ottawa River Boat Club, who he considered his second family. He was very proud of his boat, Pig Pen, and he was well known by people all around Lake Erie. He was a very generous host and loved taking his large groups of friends out on the water. Bob’s loved ones will never forget his smile and the comfort that his presence would bring them.

Boomer is survived by his wife, Katherine McBroom; brothers, Jim (Darlene) McBroom, Charles Ralph McBroom; friend, Carol Gibney; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and countless cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Melvin McBroom.

A memorial gathering will take place at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W Sylvania Ave., Toledo, on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 12-3 p.m. A memorial service will follow immediately after at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
