Robert “Skip” Mackey, born on Good Friday April 3rd 1931. Handsome healthy boy, son to Robert F. Lulu B. (Petonke) Mackey. Adoring a single Skippy curl that made him known as Skip the rest of his life. He was well known for his blue eyes kind heart. Grew up working on the Bay Township family farm gave him life lesson he will carry on. He was well liked as a member of the Port Clinton Class of 1949, holding the title of class president. Member of the Boy Scouts of America. In 1954 joined the United States Army discharged in May 1956. He loved the story of the Alaskan moose that chewed on his boot while he was taking a nap one afternoon. After leaving his station in Alaska, back to Ohio to his lifelong friends Walt Pauline Eaton. He married Donna Rae (Chio) Mackey on May 25th 1952 never stopped loving her. They were blessed with sons; Duane, Rodney Joseph. Since the boys liked to keep life interesting, Skip was the 1st Fire Chief of Bay Twp. Pa Ma were owners of Skip’s carry-out (County Line Store) on St. Rte. 53 for several years. He coached little league, was a 4-H advisor teamster member hauling Jeeps for 30 years for Dallas Mavis. Baptized, confirmed a lifelong active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Port Clinton holding various rolls throughout his life. As his soul travels on to a place beyond the stars; Donna Rae (D. 10/11/1994) has greeted him with open arms once again. Middle son Rodney (D. 03/21/2008) will peek up from under a car hood to wave his dad hello. Lastly, Rebecca age 3 (D. 07/24/2001) his granddaughter ready for those big grandfather hugs. The surviving family is at peace knowing who has greeted him hello. Younger sister best friend Beverly D. Mackey, oldest son Duane (Audrey) Mackey, youngest son Joe (Judy) Mackey Daughter in Law Cheryl (Jim) Wing. Grandchildren Tommy (Kristen) Mackey, Nick (Marti) Mackey, Lynda (Andrew) Chudzinski, SSG, staff sergeant Sarah (Lionel) Powell, Robert L. Mackey, William (Kelly) Mackey, Bethany (Johnathan) Davis Amy Mackey. Twelve Great Grandchild, to carry on his name, his legacy his love. Join us Sunday, October 21st 2 to 4 6 to 8 with fireman honors at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home of Port Clinton. Monday, October 22nd at 10:00 am for final blessings given by Rev. Jim Lehman at St. John’s Lutheran Church Port Clinton. Internment military honors to follow at Elliston Cemetery Graytown, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Church and/or Bay Township Fire Department.
