Robert Lowell Lohmeyer

October 16, 1942 — April 28, 2024

Bob was born October 16, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio. Growing up in the Old West End, Bob sold newspapers on the corner of Monroe and Auburn across the street from the Old Swayne Field Baseball Park. He heard the call of baseball from that early age. Bob’s family moved to Sylvania when he was in junior high and Bob was able to play organized baseball on a real ball field. He attended Burnham High School where he earned his varsity letter in baseball and was a class officer his senior year. He attended BGSU and University of Toledo where he earned his BS in accounting. He worked for Ernst and Ernst (now Ernst and Young). After a few years Bob worked for a heavy equipment company. He enjoyed delivering the paychecks to the men in the field where he got to ride on the heavy equipment.

After a few years Bob moved from baseball to softball. His team qualified for the senior Olympics on three occasions. Bob played in Tucson, Arizona, Walt Disney World’s Sports Complex in Florida and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was a great experience to see so many seniors being active in a variety of sports.

In retirement, Bob and his wife, Darlene, spent many years traveling throughout the US, Europe, and Australia, where they visited with their former foreign exchange student. Bob and Darlene shared 59 years of marriage together.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; son, Jeffery (Lynne); daughter, Andrea (Scott) Simpson; grandchildren, Tyler, Emmy, Robert, Jack, Michael, and Will; brother, Craig (Libby) Lohmeyer; sister-in-law, Cheron (Greg) Stern; and nieces, nephews, and several cousins.

Family and friends may visit Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 10-11 am at Hope Lutheran Church, 2201 Secor Rd. The Funeral Service will follow in the church at 11 am. Interment will be private.

His family would like him to be remembered as a caring, benevolent, and fun-loving individual. In his memory, please consider memorial contributions to East Toledo Family Center or Ohio Living Hospice.
