Robert Joseph Kolvey, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born in Toledo, OH to Joseph and Agnes (Puhl) Kolvey on October 8, 1942. Bob was a longtime sports fan, especially for the University of Notre Dame which was the first school to recruit him as a college football player. He also was a star baseball player throughout his school years. He eventually chose to attend the University of Arkansas where he was a dual sport athlete.
After graduating from umpire school in 1972, he umpired for 40 years at both the high school and college level. One of his greatest pleasures was the opportunity he had on several occasions to umpire for both of his sons’ high school games (his strike zone may have been questioned by them more than once).
He married his beloved wife, Sandy (Kramer) Kolvey, and spent over 62 wonderful years together in Perrysburg, OH. They enjoyed taking cruises and their condo in Las Vegas.
Bob enjoyed his riding mower on a sunny day and took pride in his lawn. He loved to talk about his favorite teams after the games. He cherished his grandchildren and hearing about their accomplishments. He loved to laugh at The Three Stooges and sharing his dry sense of humor with all who could keep up.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sandy Kolvey; children, Bob (Anita) Kolvey, Jr., Eric (Eileen) Kolvey; grandchildren, Alyssa, Zachary, Meredith, Alexander, and Noah Kolvey; and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services for Bob will be private. Services were entrusted to Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, Perrysburg. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Toledo Humane Society or the Perrysburg Amateur Baseball and Softball Commission.
