Robert A. Kahle, 96, of Perrysburg, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Robert was born in Maumee, Ohio to George J. and Frances J. (Nichter) Kahle on October 25, 1921. He was the sixth child of ten. Robert graduated from Maumee High School in 1940. Six weeks before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor Robert turned 20. He volunteered for the U.S. Coast Guard and graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at Groton, Connecticut as a Second Lieutenant (jg). During WWII, Robert and the rest of the Coast Guard acted as part of the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was an officer on transport ships delivering supplies in combat conditions. After wartime, Robert married the love of his life, Patricia D. Haas, who preceded him in death in 2015. He loved playing golf and was a loyal Detroit Tigers fan. Robert is survived by his sons, Robert “Bob” (Cindy) Kahle, Thomas “Tom” (Kate) Kahle, Terence “Terry” (Sharon) Kahle; grandchildren, Nicole, Michael, Nathan (Amber), David (Shanna), Robert (Kim), Rebecca (Zak) Molyet, Sam; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Oliver, Landon, Hailey, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Friends will be received on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133), where a Rosary Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Saturday, February 10, 2018, beginning at 9:45 a.m. with a Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Maumee. Memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic Parish.
