Robert Dale Jones, 59, of Sylvania, Ohio, died on Friday, June 29, 2012, after a long battle with brain cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Bob was a talented and creative man, successful in many artistic endeavors, including drawing, painting, guitar, community theater, and cooking, and he was a voracious reader. He was devoted to his family, and especially loved spending time with his granddaughter. He was loved for his sense of humor, his generosity, and his compassion for others. Bob was an active member of Christ the King Church, where he served as lector, usher, and eucharistic minister. He was an avid Cleveland Indians and University of Toledo Rockets fan. Bob was born on August 30, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Harry O. and Bonnie Saunders Jones. His early career was in food services and restaurant management, but he felt called to teaching, so he returned to school and received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Toledo in 1993. He was employed by Washington Local Schools for 16 years, teaching 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grades at Greenwood, Wernert, Monac, Jefferson, Hiawatha, and Trilby Schools. He excelled at reaching all his students, and was especially proud of the many at-risk students who flourished under his tutelage. It was early in his teaching career that he met Deborah Frederick, and they were married in 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Terry Hanratty, and mother-in-law Virginia Frederick. He is survived by his wife Debbie, his daughter Kelley, his granddaughter Teagan, his brother Harry Caryn, his sisters JoNell Hanratty and Tammy Lehman, his father-in-law Judson Frederick, his brother-in-law Mark Mary Ann Frederick, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 2 to 8 p.m., with a scripture service at 7 p.m., followed by a sharing of memories. There will be prayers at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012. The funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, Ohio 43623, at 11 a.m. on Monday. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Christ the King Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, Ohio, 43551. Heartfelt thanks to all those who supported Bob and Debbie on this journey. Special thanks to Visiting Angels, Otterbein Monclova, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care.
