Robert “Bob” Gene Horner, 90, of Ankeny, Iowa, entered into Heaven on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.  Bob was born in Tiffin, Ohio on November 26, 1923, to Dewey and Martha Talmage Horner.  He served in the US Army during WWII and was a supervisor for Dana Corporation in Toledo where he retired in 1978.  Bob married Violet Poorman on October 23, 1948, in Pettisville, Ohio. In later life, he worked for various churches and schools as a custodian in Ohio and Michigan.  Bob and Violet relocated to Ankeny in 2004 to live with their eldest son, David. Bob was an avid carpenter who enjoyed building things especially for churches, enjoyed watching golf on television, and spending time with his nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  He was a member of Urbandale Baptist Church and served in the greeters’ ministry. Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Violet, of Ankeny; children, David of Ankeny, Linda (Dennis) St. Johns of Toledo, Ronnie (Maria) of Chapin, SC and Alan of Waterford, MI; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Marilyn) of Wauseon, OH and Roger (Nan) of Bowling Green, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Horner and a sister, Betty Loudenslager. The family will receive friend on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo with graveside services to follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, 4210 West Central Ave, in Toledo.
