Robert E. Hansen

Robert Hansen passed away August 13, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio with his devoted wife and family by his side following a short illness. He had lived with Type 1 diabetes for 74 years after being diagnosed at the age of 15. Bob was born in Decatur, Illinois to George and Arlowyne Hansen. He was the second of 5 children. He grew up in Decatur and in Clinton and Adrian Michigan. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1949. Bob received his BBA from the University of Toledo, and his MBA and DBA from Indiana University. He taught accounting at Kentucky Wesleyan College where he met his wife of 62 years, Nancy Mae Wyant. They married in August of 1959. He went on to teach at Kent State University, the University of Toledo (where he served as Chair of the Accounting Dept from 1978 to 1985), Morehead State University (Chair of the Accounting Department (1974-1978)), University of Detroit and Western Kentucky University. While at Morehead State he started the Morehead State Federal Credit Union and the SBA program. At the University of Toledo he started the Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Honorary. He was a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs, The Ohio Society of CPAs, The American Accounting Association, The National Association of Accountants, and the Toledo Chapters of the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Financial Executives Institute. Bob was an avid gardener and woodworker. He made wooden toys which he gave away to many friends and relatives. He loved to paint and work puzzles. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard, and sister-in law Lois. He is survived by his brothers, Norval of Plymouth, MI, Jesper (Butch) of Adrian, MI, sister Elsie (Tom Misner) of Midland, MI, sister-in-law Ann Witt of Sand Creek, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Nancy, Bob leaves behind four children, Julia Pasternak (Mike) of Akron, Ohio, Eric (Sherry) of McKinney, Texas, Joyce Huber (John) of Perrysburg, Ohio and Linda Hansen of Castle Rock, Colorado. He also leaves grandchildren Bethany Murdock (Chris), Amy Pasternak (Mike McConnell), Jessica Ingersoll (Spencer), David Hansen (Becky), Sarah Cressy (Derek), Ridge Simon and Regan Simon. Bob’s wishes were to be cremated and no services or visitation are planned at this time. Calling hours may be held at a future date in Bowling Green, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Robert E and Nancy Hansen Endowment Fund at Morehead State University, Morehead, KY (alumni.moreheadstate.edu), the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf.org) or Hospice of Northwest Ohio (hospicenwo.org).
