Robert M. Geldien, 96, of Oak Harbor and formerly of Bettsville, OH, passed away Thursday morning, July 23, 2015, at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. Robert was born May 5, 1919, on the family farm in Troy Township, OH, the son of Carrie (Raberg) and Louis M. Geldien. He married Betty J. Sarnes in Port Clinton, Ohio, on June 20, 1942. Robert served in the military police in the Army during WWII, 9206th Technical Service Unit. He retired in 1978 from Kelsey-Hayes, Kingsway Plant in Fremont, where he was a Worker’s Comp representative and a member of the Kelsey-Hayes Retirees Club. Robert was a past mayor of Rocky Ridge; he played Santa Claus for 30 years in Oak Harbor and for the Lucas County Children’s Wonderland. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rocky Ridge, the DAV, the American Legion and the Eagles. He also belonged to a card club and a bowling league. Robert was an avid gardener, and he loved to hunt, fish and travel the United States. Robert is survived by his wife of 73 years, Betty, sons Robert J. (Judy) Geldien, Florida, Frederick L. (Vicki) Geldien of Port Clinton and Mark D. (Kimberly) Geldien of Oak Harbor; grandchildren, Christopher Geldien, Wendy (Brian McDonald) Geldien, Jayme (Julie Wagner) Geldien, Kenny (Erica) Geldien, Alicia (Aaron Kerr) Geldien and Alana Geldien. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation will be 5-7p.m., Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. The funeral service will be conducted 11a.m., Monday, July 27, 2015 at St John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge, OH. Burial will follow in Limestone Cemetery, Limestone, OH, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Genoa American Legion, Post #324. Memorial contributions for Robert may be directed to Riverview Healthcare Campus, or St John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge.
