Robert “Bob” D. Gayer, 80, of Maumee, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, just 21 days prior to his 6th Wedding Anniversary with wife, Sharon (DeVaughn) Gayer. Bob was born on February 13, 1936. He grew up, one of five brothers, under the careful watch of parents, Raymond and Lucille (Eisley), who raised all of them to be fine men. He graduated with the class of 1954 as a St. Marys Rough Rider. Bob proudly served his country, entering the Army just weeks after his marriage to Mary (Sentle) Gayer. They celebrated 44 years of marriage before her passing. Bob worked for 40 years as a Sprinkler Fitter, retiring in 1998. He was a lifetime member of the Road Sprinkler Fitters Local Union #669. He proudly earned his 50 years of service with the United Association in 2008. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob enjoyed an active and quality life. He especially loved traveling with his wife, Sharon, connecting with his Local #669 retirement group for monthly breakfasts at Charlie’s, and fishing with his son, Darrel, on Lake Erie. Bob is survived by his loving family; wife, Sharon Gayer; children, Darrel Gayer, Teresa (Donald) Ryder; step-children, David (Karen) DeVaughn, Douglas DeVaughn; grandchildren, Heather Ryder, Robert Ryder; great-grandchildren, Colton Eli Ryder, Harlie Jane Ryder. Step-grandchildren include Sara, Christopher, Heather; step great-grandchildren, Darrell, Savannah, Kylee, Mikayla, Aubry, Kennadie. Brothers, Harold R. (Angela) Gayer, Verl W. (Shirley) Gayer, Kenneth E. (Kay) Gayer, Lee W. (Roberta) Gayer; sisters-in-law, Martha (Sentle) Van Beers, Jacqueline (Sentle) Creek, Wilma Sentle; brother-in-law, Leslie Sentle; and many, many nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by wife, Mary (Sentle) Gayer, infant son John Ray Gayer, and his parents. Friends will be received on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, Ohio (419-874-3133). A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joan of Arc, 5950 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, or to the donor’s choice.
