Robert Lynn Gardner Robert Lynn Gardner, 95, of Toledo, passed away peacefully August 25, 2017 at the Ebeid Hospice Center. Robert was born December 15, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Harold B. and Elsie (Schaefer) Gardner. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, the late Margaret Jane Gardner. Robert was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy, Valley Forge PA. Following Robert’s graduation, he enlisted in the Army as a Lieutenant in the Armored Division in June, 1943 until his Honorable Discharge from active duty in 1946. During WW II Robert served in the Asian Pacific theater earning recognition for his service being awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Occupation Medal (Japan). Robert was active in his church, Little Flower, serving in the men’s club and St. Vincent DePaul Society organizations. In his senior years his greatest enjoyment was playing golf in the Little Flower Golf League. Surviving Robert are five children: Robert, Hal (Maureen) Gardner, Mari (Jim) Palmer, Sarah Gardner, Debe (Daryl) Gruver; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Gillian, Adam, Evan, Corey, Alexander, Daniel; great grandchildren, Amrys, Noah, Brooklyn, Sarah Louise, Grayson and 21 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Weston, and sister, Jane. Private interment will take place at Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River, Ohio. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date at Little Flower Catholic Church, where Robert was a member. Memorials are suggested to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in care of Little Flower Catholic Church, 5522 Dorr Street, Toledo, Ohio 43615 Arrangements are under the direction of the Walker Funeral Home, 419-841-2422.
