Robert B. Flahiff

August 20, 1928 — October 14, 2011

Robert B. Flahiff, born to Harold and Edna Flahiff on August 20, 1928 passed away October 14th after a long illness. Bob was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament grade school, a 1946 graduate of Central Catholic High School, and served his country in Korea with the United States Army. On Thanksgiving Day 1953 he married his tennis partner, Barbara Hilt. He was employed with Tilenius and Randolph (later to become Cosco Graphics) in downtown Toledo for his entire career as a graphic artist. His children fondly remember watching him wave from his second-story window as he was picked up from work. Bob was an excellent basketball and softball player in his youth, and enjoyed playing golf and bowling well into his retirement years. Bob and Barb travelled extensively throughout the entire United States, as well as Europe. Their favorite trip was a cruise on the Baltic Sea. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Toledo, and after moving to Perrysburg, joined St. Rose Parish. Bob’s volunteer work at both parishes included ushering and serving school lunches. Bob is survived by his wife; children, Janice (Carl) Flahiff, Diane (Doug) Scaife, Carolyn (Cal) Smith, and Dan (Glenna) Flahiff; grandchildren Alysha and Cody Hill, Pam McCray, and Ryan, Lucas and Michael Smith. Bob also leaves behind his brother Harold, sister Dorothy Hogan, sister-in-law Sheron Dauphin, and their spouses and children. Humble, hard-working, honest men are seldom remembered in history, yet Bob will always be remembered by those who knew him. Whether it was helping with a school project for his children, re-painting the street signs in his Perrysburg community when they became unsightly, or diving into a lake in an attempt to save a drowning man, Bob will always be a hero in our eyes. Friends and family will be received from 5-8 PM Sunday, October 16, 2011 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home 222 E.S. Boundary St. Perrysburg, Ohio where a Rosary will be recited at 7 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Rose Catholic Church 215 East Front St. Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and St. Rose Catholic Church.
