Robert Duket, age 85, of Maumee, Ohio died Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Sunset Village in Sylvania. He was born May 3, 1926, in Toledo to Albert T. Duket and Helen L. Leslie Duket. A veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart while serving in the ETO as a combat infantryman with the Third Infantry. After the war he married Ruth Elaine Collins and began a family while attending the University of Toledo. He graduated with a degree in engineering and taught for one year before joining the Columbia Gas System. He was employed by Columbia in various engineering and management positions for 32 years. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman enjoying the Maumee River in NW Ohio, lakes in northern Michigan, and Lake Erie since a boy and until very recently. He served as a member of the Maumee Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and the American Institute of Plant Engineers. Other memberships include the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He spent wonderful years of camping, fishing, hunting, birding, shelling, traveling with his wife and close companion Ruth. One of their favorite places was Sanibel Island, Florida where they often hosted family reunions. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Robert is survived by his children, Michael wife Susan of Maumee, Timothy wife Amy of Newton, MA, Steven wife Beth of W. Lafayette, IN, Cathy husband Doug Cunningham of Graham, NC; nine grandchildren plus seven step and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth of 63 years 2009, son Jeffrey and grandson Robert.
